How to Love Your Clients through Your Visual Brand

If you're a Christian business owner, this is for you.

It can be hard to figure out how visual branding ties into our faith, but starting with love is always a good idea.

We want our business decisions to be love-led and glorifying to God, just like every other part of our lives. And that means adopting a servant, or people-centered, mindset.

“And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” - Colossian 3:17

what is your visual brand?

Your visual brand is probably what you think of when you hear the word "branding." It includes your logo, your colors, your fonts, pictures and graphics - everything visual you use for your business. If you're marketing in Facebook groups, even your profile picture is a part of your visual brand.

Your Visual Brand Communicates

To design a people-centered and love-led visual brand, you need to know how a visual brand works. Your logo, color palette, and font choices aren’t simply decoration for your business: they’re communication.

The easiest way to see this is through your color choices. Color psychology is the study of how the mind subconsciously reacts to different colors.

Red represents: passion, anger, love, intensity

Orange represents: hunger, stimulation, enthusiasm

Yellow represents: happiness, energy, brightness, liveliness

Green represents: life, freshness, health

Blue represents: relaxation, calm, peace

Purple represents: luxury, sensuality, wisdom, mystery

And all of your other design choices communicate in a similar way. Every image you create on behalf of your business is telling the world something about your business.

A Message of Love

Making sure that communication is a loving message is how you make your visual brand people-centered.

Paul says it best, “If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.”

It doesn’t matter what you’re communicating until you’re communicating in love.

For example, my loving message for my business would be something like, “You don’t have to be overwhelmed. Your visual brand can be effortless. What makes you unique and wonderful can turn into an unique and wonderful brand. I’m here to help you make that happen.”

Putting It Into Practice

Now let’s talk about how you actually DO that.

The specific message of love you want to communicate to your clients is easily seen through your written message, but communicating that same message through visuals is a little harder. I like to think of your visual brand as your business’ body language. It communicates more subconsciously, and is more about feelings than concrete concepts.

So then, when designing your visual brand, it’s important to make its message simple, so it’s easy to communicate.

I help my clients boil their message of love down into five powerful, feeling-based words called your brand personality.

For example, my brand personality is: warm, feminine, bold, knowledgeable, and helpful

I came up with mine over time, but the basic concept I wanted to communicate is that of a helpful older sister or mentor.
