Process

1. Read the beatitudes and brainstorm imagery for each concept

2. Sketched the basic characters and layout of the black and white poster

3. Chose brush styles for line art, lettering, and headers

4. Digitally inked and handlettered the poster

5. Selected a color palette

6. Digitally painted the colored version of the poster

Challenges

1. The beatitudes are, for the most part, abstract ideas that can be hard for kids to remember

2. Church art is often boring and/or outdated

Solutions

1. The characters are fusions of the described trait and blessing of each beatitude, making them visual mnemonic devices

2. Made it a little weird
